China’s Zhao Xintong saw off Jamie Brown 4-2 to reach the third round of Q School event two in Burton.
Zhao, age 21, dropped off the tour at the end of last season and is looking to bounce straight back. He needs four more wins on Thursday and Friday to earn a fresh two-year tour card.
Zhao, whose top break today was 58, will now meet Jamie Curtis-Barrett, another player aiming to hit straight back after tour relegation. He edged out Lee Daegyu 4-3 by clearing from green to black in the deciding frame.
Former ranking event semi-finalist Michael Judge top scored with 101 in a 4-1 win over Hu Hao, while Thailand’s Dechawat Poomjaeng eased to a 4-0 win over Ahmed Elsayed with a top break of 94.
