WPBSA Statement – Matthew Selt

On 19th May 2016 the WPBSA Disciplinary Committee heard the case of WPBSA and Matthew Selt. It was alleged that Mr Selt posted messages on social media that were offensive and that they were the subject of a complaint from a member of the public. This is contrary to the WPBSA Social Media Guidelines and is contrary to section 1.2 of the WPBSA Members Rules:

1.2       A Member shall not make or cause to be made any statement or commit or cause to be committed any act which in the reasonable view of the WPBSA is likely to bring into disrepute the games of snooker and/or billiards.

Matthew Selt put forward a defence that was not accepted by the Committee and he was found to be in breach of rule 1.2. The Committee took into account that he had been previously warned about his posts on social media and reminded of the Social Media Guidelines.

The sanction imposed by the Committee is to suspend Mr Selt from competing in or attending the following WSL Tour events:
1.       The Riga Masters (including the Qualifying event)
2.       The Paul Hunter Classic
He is to pay £1,000 towards the costs of the hearing.

Mr Selt has until 10th June to appeal the decision of the Disciplinary Committee.
