Out of form: Trump
Judd Trump scored just 37 points in five frames as he suffered a shock 5-0 defeat against Sam Craigie at the World Open qualifiers on Monday evening.
World number three Trump was badly out of sorts in Preston and managed a top break of just 9 against a player 73 places below him in the rankings.
The result is reminiscent of Trump’s 6-0 reverse against world number 120 Michael Wild at the International Championship qualifiers two years ago.
It’s a career-best result for Newcastle’s 23-year-old Craigie and he goes through to the final stages of the ranking event in China in September. He made just one break over 50 – a run of 66 in the last frame – but did enough to beat his opponent. Craigie has shown promising form recently, reaching the last 32 of the Kaspersky Riga Masters.
China’s Xiao Guodong knocked in breaks of 59, 62, 126 and 80 in a 5-3 win over Lukas Kleckers, while Ricky Walden top scored with 70 in a 5-2 win over Jamie Curtis-Barrett.
