Matthew Selt came from 2-0 down to beat Liang Wenbo 3-2 at Crondon Park and seal the final spot in the winners’ group of 2016 Championship League Snooker.
He will join Ronnie O’Sullivan, Mark Williams, Mark Selby, Judd Trump, Ali Carter and Stephen Maguire in a high quality final group that gets underway at 11.00am on Wednesday.
Selt can now set his sights on the bigger prize fund that comes in the final group after a string of solid performances on Monday and Tuesday in Group 7.
“I am delighted to get through. I was a bit disappointed to only be in Group 7 and get one bite at the cherry but I am very pleased to come through,” said Selt.
“I probably should have lost the final, I was very lucky in the end, but it is swings and roundabouts. I missed out on the Players Championship last week because of Martin Gould getting to the final in Gdynia, so it is a good way to bounce back.
“It is great to be able to play the best players in the world. It is a best of five so a short format, the best match preparation you can get. It is a great opportunity to play all these guys in one group so I am looking forward to it.”
