Selby Named Player Of The Year

Mark Selby was named snooker’s Player of the Year at the sport’s annual awards ceremony in London.

Selby won two of snooker’s biggest tournaments during the 2012/13 season, the UK Championship and the Masters, as well as two European Tour events in Germany. He finished the season on top of the world rankings.

Leicester’s 29-year-old Selby also won the Snooker Writers and Fans Player of the Year categories.

Performance of the Year went to Ronnie O’Sullivan for his sensational victory in the World Championship, having previously played just one competitive match during the season.

Preston’s Ian Burns was named Rookie of the Year after an excellent debut season in which he climbed to number 68 in the world.

The Magic Moment of the Year was won by Sussex’s Jimmy Robertson for his incredible 57 clearance in just 130 seconds to beat Tian Pengfei at the one-frame Shoot-Out.

Seven former World Champions were inducted into snooker’s Hall of Fame: Terry Griffiths, Joe Johnson, Ken Doherty, Peter Ebdon, Shaun Murphy, Graeme Dott and Neil Robertson.

The awards ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel also helped raised money for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, which is World Snooker’s official charity for the season – for more details see www.bluebellwood.org
