Selby Leaps To Second On One-Year List

Mark Selby has jumped into second place on the one year ranking list following his victory at the OPPO International Championship.

Selby beat Mark Allen 10-7 in the final in Daqing to win his first ranking title of the season and 13th of his career.

After a slow start to the season, he had been down in 28th place on the list, but the £150,000 top prize has taken him to second, behind only Luca Brecel.

Allen banked £75,000 and he’s up from 12th to fourth. China’s 17-year-old prodigy Yan Bingtao reached the semi-finals of a ranking event for the first time in his career and the £32,000 he earned lifts him from 48th to 19th. Martin Gould also got to the last four and he’s up from 40th to 17th.

This list will once again be used to determine the field for the Ladbrokes World Grand Prix and Ladbrokes Players Championship later in the season. The top 32 on the one-year list after the Coral Shoot Out will qualify for the Ladbrokes World Grand Prix in Preston (February 19-25) then the top 16 from the same list after the Gibraltar Open will qualify for the Ladbrokes Players Championship in Llandudno (March 19-25).

As it stands there are nine players in the top 32 of the one year list who are outside the top 32 of the official two year list, and four players in the top 16 of the one year list who are outside the top 16 of the two-year list.

Teenage talent – Yan Bingtao

Selby has extended his lead at the top of the two-year list to a massive £794,550 over Ding Junhui. He has now been world number one for 33 consecutive months and shows no signs of letting his lead slip. Allen climbs from 11th to sixth while Yan is up from 53rd to 37th.

Gould’s run boosted his hopes of a place at the Dafabet Masters in January. With three counting events to go, he’s now in 19th place and just £23,600 behind 16th-placed Liang Wenbo. To see how that race is shaping up click here.
