Robertson Into Last 16

World number two Neil Robertson, Stuart Bingham and Stephen Maguire were among the players to come through Friday’s action at the Kreativ Dental Ruhr Open in Germany.

Robertson needed a good run in the European Tour event to boost his chance of a place in the Players Championship Grand Finals, as he currently lies 27th on the Order of Merit. He saw off Noppon Saengkham 4-2 with a top break of 140, and Jak Jones 4-0 to reach the last 32. The Aussie then beat Craig Steadman 4-2 with a top break of 95.

Bingham trailed Luca Brecel three times in the third round but recovered to win 4-3, taking a tense 48-minute decider by potting the last blue and pink. Maguire scored a 4-2 win over Chris Melling with a top run of 101.

Defending champion Mark Allen suffered a surprise 4-0 defeat against Stuart Carrington in round three. Grimsby’s Carrington showed his talent with breaks of 85, 51, 64 and 102.

Liang Wenbo came from 3-0 down to beat Jimmy Robertson 4-3 while Rod Lawler scored a 4-1 win over Lee Page.

Robert Milkins made a 56 in the decider to beat Peter Lines 4-3 while Andrew Higginson top scored with 99 in a 4-1 win over Dominic Dale.
