World number two Neil Robertson, Stuart Bingham and Stephen Maguire were among the players to come through Friday’s action at the Kreativ Dental Ruhr Open in Germany.
Robertson needed a good run in the European Tour event to boost his chance of a place in the Players Championship Grand Finals, as he currently lies 27th on the Order of Merit. He saw off Noppon Saengkham 4-2 with a top break of 140, and Jak Jones 4-0 to reach the last 32. The Aussie then beat Craig Steadman 4-2 with a top break of 95.
Bingham trailed Luca Brecel three times in the third round but recovered to win 4-3, taking a tense 48-minute decider by potting the last blue and pink. Maguire scored a 4-2 win over Chris Melling with a top run of 101.
Defending champion Mark Allen suffered a surprise 4-0 defeat against Stuart Carrington in round three. Grimsby’s Carrington showed his talent with breaks of 85, 51, 64 and 102.
