The Leicester player's season promised much but ultimately fell short of reaching the real heights. His first success came at the Royal London Watches Grand Prix. He topped his qualifying group with six wins out of seven matches to book his place at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre. He just missed out on a last 16 place when he finished level with Gerard Greene both players have three wins and two defeats by Greene had won the head to head between the two. To add to his woes Ford had been admitted to hospital during the round robin phase and only just made it to his match with Steve Davis. During the match he pulled out a sensational performance to defeat Davis 4-0, finishing with three straight centuries including a maximum, 122, 147 and 117 to cap a remarkable recovery.
He also took the Rocket to the wire in the Northern Ireland Trophy, during there second round match. Ford led 3-1 and 4-2 but the current World Champion reeled off the final three frames to edge through.
Ford’s best display in 2006/07 was a run to the last 16 of the Malta Cup.
Wins over Rory McLeod and Andy Hicks booked him his ticket to Malta where he edged out Anthony Hamilton 5-4 before losing 5-3 to Graeme Dott.
The Leicester player also qualified for the final stages of the Honghe Industrial China Open but lost to wild card Xiao Guodong.
Ford’s best ranking event placing was achieved in Malta in 2005 when he beat Ken Doherty to reach the quarter-finals, where his run was ended by Stephen Hendry.
English under-15 champion at the age of 13, Ford beat Bristol’s Judd Trump 5-1 in the final of the 2001 English under-18 Championship.
