Joyce reached the last 32 of a ranking event for the first time in his career at the 2009 Grand Prix.
He beat Andrew Norman, Michael Judge and Barry Hawkins to qualify for the venue in Glasgow. Drawn against John Higgins, he managed just one frame in the best-of-nine encounter.
Joyce couldn't get to the venue stages of any other ranking event during the campaign, and finished with a drop of one place to No 58 in the world.
In 2008 he got to the final of the Masters qualifying tournament at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. Victories over Peter Lines, Barry Hawkins, Kuldesh Johal, Andrew Higginson and Matthew Stevens gave him a chance of a wild card to Wembley, but he was no match for Judd Trump in the final, losing 6-1.
During the 2007/08 season he finished second in his qualifying group for the Grand Prix with four wins from seven matches. In Aberdeen he couldn’t re-produce that winning form as he finished bottom of his group.
Joyce could be Walsall’s successor to former Crucible semi-finalist Steve James and looks to have a bright future in snooker.
He enjoyed an outstanding amateur career, winning the European Under-19 Championship in 2001, the English Open in 2005 and the prestigious English Amateur Championship in 2006, beating Martin O’Donnell 8-3 in the final.
Joyce also finished fifth on the 2005/06 Pontin’s International Open Series, winning the second of eight events, to book a place on the Tour.
