In his third season on the professional Tour, Joyce's best placing in a ranking event was the last 48 of the Roewe Shanghai Masters. Wins over Paul Davison and Adrian Gunnell pitched him against former world No 1 Mark Williams. He lost that battle 5-1 but will be bouyed by his two place improvement in the rankings; he now resides at No 57.
His best run came in a non-ranking event as he got to the final of the Masters qualifying tournament at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. Victories over Peter Lines, Barry Hawkins, Kuldesh Johal, Andrew Higginson and Matthew Stevens gave him a chance of a wild card to Wembley, but he was no match for Judd Trump in the final, losing 6-1.
During the 2007/08 season he finished second in his qualifying group for the Royal London Watches Grand Prix with four wins from seven matches.
In Aberdeen he couldn’t re-produce that winning form as he finished bottom of his group.
Joyce could be Walsall’s successor to former Crucible semi-finalist Steve James and looks to have a bright future in snooker.
He enjoyed an outstanding amateur career, winning the European Under-19 Championship in 2001, the English Open in 2005 and the prestigious English Amateur Championship in 2006, beating Martin O’Donnell 8-3 in the final.
Joyce also finished fifth on the 2005/06 Pontin’s International Open Series, winning the second of eight events, to book a place on the Tour.
