Selt got off to a flying start in the 2009/10 season, qualifying for the venue stage of both the Roewe Shanghai Masters and the Grand Prix.
In the former he beat Mark Boyle, Andy Hicks, Jimmy Michie and Steve Davis to reach the last 32 of a ranking event for the first time in his career. In Shanghai he beat wild card Shi Hanqing 5-0, before losing 5-2 to John Higgins.
In the latter, Selt saw off Jordan Brown, Jimmy White, Stuart Pettman and Fergal O'Brien to get to Glasgow. Drawn against another top Scot in Stephen Hendry, he again succumbed 5-2.
The Essex cueman was unable to make another venue during the season, but he still finished it with a leap of 16 places up the world rankings to No 51.
Selt qualified for the pro circuit by finishing seventh on the 2006/07 Pontin’s International Open Series. He reached the semi-finals of one event and the quarters of three more.
The 2002 English under-18 runner-up, who played one season on the Tour in 2002/03, is a regular practice partner of Ronnie O’Sullivan.
Away from the table, he enjoys playing golf and has a handicap of ten.
