Couch reached the last 64 of two ranking tournaments during the 2009/10 season.
In the Roewe Shanghai Masters he beat Mei Xiwen and Jin Long before losing to Dominic Dale, and in the Sanyuan Foods China Open he knocked out David Hogan and Paul Davies before losing to Jamie Burnett.
He did just enough to keep his place on the pro tour, finishing at No 69 in the world.
Couch came within one win of the Crucible in 2009. Wins over Michael Georgiou, Andrew Norman and 1991 Champion John Parrott left the Scunthorpe cueman one match away from Sheffield.
In the last 48 he faced Joe Swail, who had just reached his first ranking event final after 18 years as a pro, and he made it count as Couch lost 10-1.
Having dropped off the Tour in 2006/07 he re-claimed his place by finishing fifth in the Pontin’s International Open Series rankings, winning the fourth of eight events by beating Michael Wild 6-3 in the final.
Indeed, 2007 was a good year for Couch as he also won the Paul Hunter English Open in Leeds with a surprise victory over Neil Robertson, 6-5 in the final.
Couch was a UK Championship quarter-finalist in 1998.
