Roe has held a top 64 ranking since the 1988-89 season, but will have his work cut out to retain that status after a poor 2008/09.
He starts 09/10 at No 62, a drop of 10 places after winning just two matches last term. He won his first round match at both the Northern Ireland Trophy and the Welsh Open.
The previous season was a complete contrast, he lost his opening match in just one of the campaign’s seven ranking events and climbed three places to No 52 in the world. Indeed he started the 2008/09 in 41st place on the provisional list.
His best run took him to the last 32 of the Welsh Open. Wins in qualifying over Alex Davies and David Gray earned him a place at the Newport Centre, where he beat Barry Hawkins 5-2 before losing 5-3 to John Higgins.
Roe has reached the quarter-finals of a ranking tournament on four occasions, the last at the German Open in 1995 when he was beaten 5-3 by Alan McManus.
He spent three successive seasons in the top 16 and reached a highest position of 13th in 1994-95.
