McLeod jumped five places up the rankings at the end of the 2008/09 season to reach a career high of No 39.
He completed a notable season by becoming the first black player to qualify for the Crucible. Wins over Andy Hicks and Ian McCulloch put him on the road to Sheffield where he faced Mark King.
It wasn’t a match for the purist and it needed three sessions for King to scrap through 10-6.
Earlier in the season at the UK Championship, McLeod had shown the form that he is capable of. Trailing World No 1 Ronnie O’Sullivan 6-0 at Telford, he rattled in breaks of 108, 102 and 131 to pull the score back to 6-5. However he couldn’t sustain his come back and went down 9-6.
McLeod had previously reached the last 32 of three ranking events, including the 2005 Grand Prix in Preston when he narrowly lost 5-4 to Barry Pinches.
His parents come from Jamaica and he makes several trips a year to Qatar, where he coaches the national team.
