Wallace got off to a strong start in the 2009/10 season, reaching the last 48 of the Roewe Shanghai Masters.
He beat Jordan Brown, Paul Davies and Rory McLeod to reach the final qualifying round, before being denied a trip to China by Matthew Stevens.
Wallace also won at least one match in the next four ranking events, but crucially lost his opening match in the Betfred.com World Snooker Championship, and finished the season up just three places on the world ranking list, at No 70.
He had regained his place on the pro Tour by winning the 2007 Northern Ireland Championship and finishing top of the national rankings in his homeland.
In 2001, Wallace went all the way to the quarter-finals of the World Championship. The accountancy graduate from Queens University, Belfast, beat Nick Walker, Simon Bedford and Joe Perry to qualify.
He then defeated Alan McManus 10-2 and Mark King 13-5 at the Crucible before losing 13-11 to fellow Ulsterman and boyhood pal Joe Swail.
"I’m very, very surprised at the progress I’ve made in this championship," admitted Wallace after the match against Swail. "This time last year I was watching the tournament at home on TV."
Wallace comes from the same town that has produced top European golfer Darren Clarke and lives only four miles from Coalisland, birthplace of 1985 world champion Dennis Taylor.
"I was one of the 18.5 million viewers who stayed up past midnight to watch him beat Steve Davis in that final. There were people out celebrating in the streets - it was amazing," he said.
In 2003, Wallace was instrumental in setting up the Barry McNamee Memorial Trophy, a tournament in Dungannon, following the tragic death of his close friend and practice partner.
