Tickets for the final of snooker's UK Championship in York virtually sold out within four hours of going on sale on Friday.

The box office opened at 10am, and by 2pm there were only nine tickets left for the final session.

Fans wanting tickets for snooker's second biggest ranking event are strongly advised to book their seats as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

The tournament at the York Barbican runs from December 3 to 11 and is set to feature the world's top players. It returns to York this year having last been staged in the city in 2006.

A World Snooker spokesman said: "Tickets sold at a phenomenal rate on the first day which clearly shows that there is a huge appetite for snooker among the fans in York and beyond. Great crowds make for a great atmosphere so we're looking forward to a cracking tournament."
