SELBY JOINS SPORTS STARS FOR FUND-RAISER

Mark Selby joined the likes of Sir Roger Bannister, Torvill and Dean, Matt Dawson, Sir Bobby Charlton, Linford Christie, Mike Gatting and Bernard Gallagher for a charity fundraising dinner at Windsor Castle, hosted by HRH The Earl of Wessex.

Over 20 stars of sport attended the black tie dinner in St George’s Hall, in support of youth charity The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, on Wednesday.
Selby, the SAGA Insurance Masters and Welsh Open champion, is pictured with golf's former Ryder Cup captain Gallagher and football legend Charlton, a 1966 World Cup winner (pic: Fergus Bennett).
Guests at this unique event were able to view some of the world’s most famous sporting trophies, including the 888.com World Snooker Championship trophy, the FA Cup, the Ryder Cup, the Guinness Premiership trophy and the cricket county championship trophy.
Speeches were made by Award Holders Saimah Laher, a member of Batley Wildcats women’s football team, and Stephen Miller, a paralympian from Newcastle, who both got to meet their own heroes. They spoke movingly about what the Award how it can help young people, including those with disabilities.
Over 200 guests were at the event and all proceeds will go to The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, helping the charity support the development of young people across the UK. For more information see www.theaward.org
