Murphy was runner-up at the World Championship in May
Shaun Murphy came from 4-1 down to beat Peter Ebdon 5-4 in an exciting battle at the Bank of Communications OTO Shanghai Masters.
The clash of two former World Champions appeared to be going Ebdon’s way as he surged 4-1 ahead with top breaks of 60, 134 and 55.
But Masters champion Murphy produced a typical fight-back as runs of 74 and 67 helped him to recover to 4-4, and he needed just one chance in the decider as a cool 81 set up a last 16 meeting with Mark Davis.
“Peter is one of the best players the game has ever seen and he made things very difficult for me,” said world number six Murphy. “It took me five frames today to adjust to the conditions and by then I was 4-1 down. I struck in there and kept trying.”
Wilson has now won five matches in this event
Kyren Wilson reached the quarter-finals of this event two years ago and he’s just one win away from matching that run, thanks to a 5-2 victory over Joe Perry. From 2-1 down, Kettering’s Wilson won four frames in a row with a top break of 55.
“The conditions were difficult today and Joe struggled,” said 23-year-old Wilson, who now meets Michael Holt. “I had a game under my belt so I was ready for the match and I took advantage. I seem to do well in this event, I feel really comfortable here. Michael beat me in the quarters here in 2013 so it would be nice to get revenge.”
Mark Davis enjoyed a 5-1 win over Michael White, winning the last four frames with top runs of 73, 61 and 126.
