India’s Aditya Mehta clinched the gold medal after beating China’s Liang Wenbo 3-0 in the final of the World Games being held in Cali, Columbia.

Mehta staved off a strong and gutsy challenge from Wenbo but proved his class with breaks of 84 in the first frame and 117 to claim the title.

Thailand’s Dechawat Poomjaeng won the bronze medal after securing a hard-fought 3-2 win over Brazil’s Igor Figueiredo in the third-place play-off match.

It was an incredible performance by Mehta and one which he described as “the best performance of my career.”

WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson said: “Snooker has won the hearts of many people through the World Games. At the opening ceremony, which included an address from IOC President Jacque Rogge, there were 42,000 people watching our players march behind national flags. And the arenas were totally sold out for Billiard Sports every day. Overall it was an incredible event which has helped Snooker develop its presence as a World Sport.”
