Snooker’s European Masters world ranking event will return to Lommel in Belgium next year.
The tournament was staged in Lommel, in the province of Limburg, for the first time this season and it was the first ranking event held in Belgium for more than two decades. The event proved a great success with many of the world’s top stars competing for the trophy.
Fans flocked to the De Soeverein venue to see players including Judd Trump, Neil Robertson, Mark Selby, John Higgins and home favourite Luca Brecel. Trump won the title by beating Stuart Bingham 9-7 in an exciting final.
The 2018 tournament will run from October 1 to 7 and tickets are NOW ON SALE! Fans are strongly urged to book quickly to make sure of their seats as many sessions will sell out quickly. For details and to book visit europeanmasters.eventsquare.co
World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn said: “We are delighted to announce our return to Lommel, which proved a fantastic setting this year. The feedback from the players about the venue and the city of Lommel was excellent and we are very grateful for the support we receive from our local partners.
“We also received great support from the fans and we know how much snooker has grown in Belgium in recent years, especially off the back of the success of the wonderful young talent Luca Brecel. I hope to see even bigger crowds next time and to see Lommel become the home of the European Masters.”
The local promoter added: “I am thrilled with the news that World Snooker has again chosen to stage the event with our support as promoters. Surely we are ready to give all Belgian and European snooker fans the time of their lives while watching and encountering the stars nearby! This is yet another great opportunity to enlarge the sport of snooker and its popularity in our region.”
